The voice’s presence in the audio essay is very significant, and can be traced through examples of photo audio essays such as Hildergard Westerkamp’s ‘Kitt’s Beach Soundwalk’ and Derek Jarman’s ‘Blue’, and seen presciently throughout what we now refer to as audio papers and audio essays.
I recorded this voice note in the well gallery of LCC, and it was a generative exercise in considering the voice as a field recording and as an object.
