Audio Fundamentals Blog #1

‘writingspace’ 2025. an audio snapshot of the songwriting sphere, mysterious and unknowable.

The above audio was an exercise in ‘worldization’ – following our class on Audio Fundamentals. In class, we tried out recording audio – moving away from the binary of ‘signal vs. noise’. The goal was just to record, then play it back and record the same audio again to capture the acoustic characteristics of the space which we were in.

I love intentionally leaving in non-musical sounds that happen during the recording process (especially with only a zoom recorder or a usb microphone) – as a way to document the life energy and space which the music is existing among. However, I wanted to intentionally lean into these sounds – rather than simply leaving them in, I wanted to use them compositionally.
